We present the first publication of the Opus Music Association, Handbook-Solfeggio, 1st part by Davor Zanoški and Zlata Životić.

Handbook-Solfeggio, 1st part can be used as a preparation for participation in the Sonus Competition, but also as an aid in regular classes. It is intended for first and second grade students of elementary music school and corresponds to the Curriculum for elementary music schools. It contains ten written and ten oral worksheets, and at the end there are dictations, which supplement the written part. These worksheets form a complete unit that will make it easier for students to master the theoretical, auditory, creative and intonational aspects, and offer teachers a better insight into the level provided by the propositions of the Competition.

About the competition

The International Competition for Young Musicians Sonus is a manifestation which takes place annually with contestants from all over the country and region, along with the prestigious music pedagogues as the members of the international Competition jury. The Music School Albert Štriga Križevci is a co-organizer of the competition and the host of the manifestation. With it’s beautiful historic venue this is a place where contestants and their mentors gladly return to and recognise as a stage of musical ideas, emotions, new experiences and warm and supporting interaction with the musical community. This Competition is unique because every contestant receives not only the numeric grade, but also a written review of the performance from every member of the Jury which the organizer sends to their mentor. The review includes observations and feedback, with the aim of encouraging the improvement of mentor’s work and the upbringing of the young musicians.

Another unique detail about the competition is that this is the first competition in Croatia where the young musicians of the primary school age also compete in the discipline of percussion.

By enlisting it as one of the official cultural municipal manifestations, the town of Križevci became a proud sponsor of The International Competition for Young Musicians Sonus in 2018.

HISTORY OF THE COMPETITION

The first Young Musicians Competition Sonus op.1 with its 123 contestants was held in February 2015. in guitar, piano, solfeggio and tambura disciplines. The second Sonus op.2 competition had 210 competitors and it included accordion, piano, solfeggio, percussion and violin disciplines.

As the competition grows and expands every year, in 2017. Sonus op.3 became an international competition with following disciplines: flute, piano, solfeggio, tambure and percussion. There were 325 contestants in the third and 256 in the fourth Sonus competition.

Since 2018. another, sixth category in two stages was added to the instrumental discipline, for the contestants between 17 and 25 years of age. The Competition included accordion, piano, percussion, solfeggio and violin disciplines.

The fifth edition of the Competition was held in 2019 under the patronage of the Ministry of Science and Education. 344 contestants competed in four disciplines: piano, solfeggio, tambura and percussion, which made the fifth edition of the Competition largest so far.

Sonus op. 6 was held in 2021. under the patronage of the Ministry of Science and Education with 256 contestants in piano, solfeggio, tambure and percussion disciplines.
