Pianist and composer Filip Fak is the director of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, associate professor at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb, and president of the Croatian Society of Music Artists.
He completed his piano studies in 2005 at the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of Đorđe Stanetti, and furthered his education at the Scholi Cantorum in Paris in the master class of Eugen Indjić, where he earned the Diplome de Concert with the highest grades. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Croatia, throughout Europe, and in the USA, Mexico, and China. As a soloist, he has performed with the most distinguished Croatian orchestras and ensembles (Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, HRT Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, Cantus Ensemble) under the baton of conductors such as Klaus Arp, Pavle Dešpalj, Alun Francis, Aleksandar Marković, Adriano Martinolli, Ville Matvejeff, Aleksandar Kalajdžić, Luca Pfaff, Ari Rasilainen, and others. He has given numerous acclaimed recitals and chamber performances, guesting at events such as the Zagreb Music Biennale, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Lisinski Saturday Cycle, HRT Master Cycle, Osor Musical Evenings, Musical Evenings in St. Donat, St. Mark's Festival, and Diapason Festival. In his solo repertoire, he pays particular attention to performing works by Croatian and contemporary composers. He has made numerous sound recordings for the Croatian Radio archive and has released several audio recordings. He is a co-founder and member of the Rijeka Piano Trio, a long-time associate member of numerous other ensembles, and an official pianist and artistic collaborator at international competitions and masterclasses. He has received numerous awards, among which the Milka Trnina professional award for the best annual musical achievement in 2018 stands out. He also composes, with an emphasis on works for piano and smaller chamber ensembles. He pursued postgraduate studies in electronic music in the class of Zlatko Tanodi at the Academy of Music in Zagreb.
Since 2020, he has been a member of the commission of the Fund for Encouraging Artistic Creativity and Cultural Diversity of HUZIP, since 2021 a member of the Council for Music Activities at the City Office for Culture and Civil Society of the City of Zagreb, and since 2024 a member of the Commission for Professional Exams of the Agency for Education and Training at the Ministry of Science and Education. During 2021-2022, he also served as the director of the Opera of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc Rijeka.
